US gov't shutdown, stock reaction, jobs data pause: 3 Things
US stock futures (ES=F, NQ=F, YM=F) are slipping in Wednesday's pre-market trading in response to the US government shutting down for the first time since 2018 after lawmakers failed to reach a compromise in a spending bill.
Gold prices (GC=F) continue their record run higher, nearing $3,900.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) was originally scheduled to report September jobs data this Friday morning, October 3, but this shutdown could delay the release of the report and other key economic data. Certain government agencies' operations will also be temporarily shuttered.
