Federal Agents Shoot, Kill Person in Minnesota Amid Unrest

Federal agents shot and killed a 51-year-old man in Minneapolis on Saturday, according to news reports, amid an immigration crackdown that has sparked social unrest across the state.

The man, who is unidentified, died at a hospital after the shooting, the Associated Press and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported.

Governor Tim Walz announced the shooting and demanded on social media that the thousands of federal agents in Minnesota leave the state.

“I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning,” Walz wrote in a post on X. “Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.”

A Department of Homeland Security official said the shooting victim was armed, but offered no details.

The Associated Press reported that after the shooting, bystanders gathered and screamed profanities at federal officers, calling them “cowards” and telling them to go home. One officer responded mockingly as he walked away, telling them: “Boo hoo,” according to AP. Agents elsewhere shoved a yelling protester into a car.

The shooting comes as Minnesotans are protesting the presence of thousands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as Border Patrol agents, who have instigated a violent crackdown on immigrants in the state.

In early January, an agent shot and killed Renee Good, a mother of three, who was driving away from ICE officers. DHS said she was trying to run her car into an agent, but video casts doubt on that version of events.
