Delayed by government shutdown, January's jobs report to be released next week
The January jobs report, originally scheduled for release on Friday, will be published Feb. 11 following the brief partial government shutdown that ended Tuesday, the Labor Department said.
The monthly payroll growth and unemployment rate announcement is closely watched by economists and the market alike — especially with the job market locked in a standstill and Federal Reserve officials spotting signs of fragility. The next release will include final annual benchmark revisions amid concerns that the economy is actually overstating job growth.
December's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, originally set for release Tuesday, will now be released Thursday. The Consumer Price Index will be delayed until Feb. 13, two days late, the Labor Department said.
